INDOOR Taiko classes at our original Novi studio and Ann Arbor Rec & Ed locations in Michigan were suspended due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in our state [mid-March 2020].
Programs @GLTC-ONLINE [Spring 2020] and OUTDOOR classes & practices with COVID-19 safety protocols [Fall 2020] were initiated for our GLTC community members. > GLTC on COVID Safety, Masks, Vaccinations [Spring 2021]
We continued to host ONLINE, OUTDOOR, and INDOOR activities (including classes, group practices and performances) following > GLTC COVID Safety Guidelines for Taiko Activities which are based on reports of COVID Community Levels in SE Michigan [2021-2023].
UPDATE Dec. 15th 2023: We recommend that individuals and groups discuss our COVID-19 Safety Protocols for Taiko activities, particularly highlighting the choice to wear a mask and reminding all to stay home if you or your contacts are ill. >Watch this video from GLTC co-directors Eileen & Larry on their general Collective Care suggestions regarding masks and COVID safety practices.
We asked that participants at our in-person activities (including outdoor classes & group practices) follow these COVID extra safety practices [from 2021-2023 GLTC Guidelines]:
Wear masks at all times (suggested N95 or equivalent).
Maintain social distance, as possible.
Avoid sharing drums, bachi, or food/drinks.
Do not come if you or your contacts are ill.
Do remind each other of our safety practices – thank you!

Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order 4 free at-home tests. Visit COVIDTests.gov or order over the phone at 1-800-232-0233 (TTY 1-888-720-7489).
The U.S. government also will continue to make COVID-19 tests available for free to uninsured individuals and underserved communities through existing outreach programs, ranging from local food banks to libraries. Free or low-cost testing also may be available at HRSA-funded health centers and ICATT locations near you.
