What songs will we be learning?
Arauma (Matsuri*-bayashi**)
This song is called "Arama Odori" which dance handed down throughout the Tohoku region located in northern part of the main island in Japan.
The song is Matsuri-bayashi played by the Fue, Nagado, Shime, bell, etc. When people dance at the festival in the region, people play this song.
In this class, we learn the Nagado and the Shime parts.
The course objectives: Students improve dynamic taiko play, such as expressing lightly, powerfully, and joyfully by playing taiko, as well as basic Nagado and Shime skills.
* “Matsuri” means festival in Japanese
** Matsuri-bayashi or Ohayashi — A music band, or accompaniment. Also refers to festival music.
Usuzumi
The song we will learn is "Usuzumi Daiko." It is a lively Japanese folk song with upbeat tempo.
The course objectives: Students will gain basic and unique Nagado and Jiuchi skills. Also, students will learn intriguing choreography.
